FC GAK 1992 Soccer 2001 - 2011

Team History

FC German American Kickers 1992 was formed in the spring of 2001 by Paul Bette, Rich Brevogel and Ron Valdner after an unsuccessful attempt to start a travelling soccer team at the then Plumsted Township Youth Soccer (PTYS) in New Egypt. The team was formed with players primarily born in 1992 (hence the team name). Head Coach Paul Bette, who was a player for the GAK at the time, began meeting with the GAK soccer committee in 1999 and eventually was granted permission to start a U-10 team in the fall of 2001. The current small-sided field at the GAK was created by the coaches and parents of this team, turning a practice area into an official sized smaller-sided team field. Before the first season began, parents came out to build goals, fill in holes and plant grass seed for the new field.  Our first roster included mostly players from the New Egypt area and few other players from the Hamilton-Metro area. Our first season competing in CJYSA was a difficult one, winning only two matches, both against Hamnett-Lawrence Soccer Association.

During our second season in 2002, Rick Brown became the team manager and stayed with the team until 2008. Other coaches who helped coach the team wereTom Caruso (2002), Norm Molis (2003), John Indyk (2005 - 2010) and Siegfried Bette, goalkeeper coach (2001 - 2010).

The team competed in CJYSA for another two seasons until it moved to MOSA  National 2 U-13 Division, which it was quickly relegated to National 3 after the first season. The team was promoted to the Premier Division of MOSA after it finished first in the U-14 Division in 2006. From U-15 to U-17, the team competed in the Premier Division of MOSA, finishing the latter two years in second place.  In the Spring of 2010, the team moved to MAPS and it came in first place out of 55 teams with an 8 wins, 1 loss and 2 ties record competing in the MAPS flights.

For many years, the team conducted numerous fundraisers and in 2008, the team travelled to Holland and Germany, training with the German Bundesliga team Borussia Moenchengladbach. It played 4 matches in Europe during this tour and played extremely well against some excellent competition: Wilhelmina Boys Best (Holland) 2:3, Muelheimer SV 07 (Germany) 5:1, Sportring Solingen Hoehscheid-Widdert(Germany) 1:2, SV Sonsbeck (Germany) 1:2.

The team reunited one last time as U-19s to compete in the 2011 Rider Cup at Fort Dix, New Jersey. The team made it all the way to the final where it lost on penalty kicks to RIdgefield Royal Strikers.

The team disbanded after the Rider Cup competition in June of 2010.

I am extremely proud of the team and it's many years of accomplishments and committment to the supporting club, the German American Society of Trenton. We were an exemplary team, always showing up to the Spring and Fall cleanups with the most participants from any GAK team and always providing excellent support at each of the annual GAK Fundraising Dinner Dances. In February of 2010, Kyle Monteleone was awarded the GAK Scholarship of $1,000 as the graduating senior who put forth the most effort over the years working at the club.
